Through the MOM project, we fight against child malnutrition from the first day of their lives.

What we do

With the MOM project: Innovation Plan for Child Nutrition, from ”la Caixa” Foundation, in collaboration with UNHCR, we work to increase child survival rates in refugee camps in Ethiopia and host communities by improving the nutritional conditions of children under 5, introducing innovative methodologies and applying new technologies.

How we help

  • We use a methodology (IYCF, Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices) that promotes practices that influence the proper feeding and health of children in all humanitarian areas (shelter, energy, protection, etc.).

  • We treat cases of severe acute malnutrition.

  • We promote different methods to reduce the rates of malnutrition: by training mothers in the early detection of malnutrition, encouraging community involvement in nutritional detection and care, implementing systems to monitor and evaluate the nutritional evolution of children, and implementing a technological solution to digitise data, among others.

This comprehensive programme, which combines innovative approaches and new technologies, aims to achieve a more effective model that increases infant survival rates and can be rolled out internationally.

Where are we

We work in Ethiopia, a country which, as the whole of the Horn of Africa, is experiencing an emergency due to the consequences of an acute and long-lasting drought, added to the accelerated increase in refugees from South Sudan and Somalia due to hunger and war.

More than 180,000 people attended in 2025

40.3 % reduction in severe acute malnutrition since the beginning of the project

29 % reduction on the infant mortality rate since the beginning of the project
