”la Caixa” Foundation grants 60 doctoral INPhINIT fellowships for young talented researchers of any nationality who wish to pursue doctoral studies in Spain or Portugal.
What we offer
Doctoral INPhINIT fellowships offer a highly competitive salary and complementary opportunities for training in transferable skills through residential sessions, outreach activities, and other features that make these fellowships among the most attractive and comprehensive in Europe. Through them, we support the best scientific talent and promote innovative, high quality research in Spain and Portugal..
This programme is divided into two frames:
Doctoral INPhINIT – Incoming call
30 doctoral fellowships for researchers who wish to carry out their doctoral project at a Spanish research centre accredited with the Spanish Seal of Excellence Severo Ochoa, María de Maeztu or the Carlos III Health Institute, and Portuguese centres accredited as "excellent" according to the evaluation of the Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia.
Doctoral INPhINIT – Retaining call
30 doctoral fellowships for researchers who want to carry out their doctoral project in any field of research at any university or research centre in Spain or Portugal.
Funding
The fellowship amount covers the fellow's costs according to the following breakdown:
Labour costs: €35,800 per year which the host institution will spend on the hiring of the fellow in accordance with the labour legislation in force in Spain or Portugal.
Research costs: €3,500 per year for expenses directly related to the development of the project, including conference registrations, courses, stays, consumables, equipment, intellectual property costs, etc.
The tuition fees to the official doctoral programme where the fellow will be admitted to.
Follow-up
Those receiving a doctoral INPhINIT fellowship will have a thesis supervisor appointed by the host institution who'll support them in completing their doctoral thesis. Fellowship holders will submit annual follow-up reports detailing their major accomplishments and future goals in accordance with a career development plan. In parallel, any ethical issues that may arise while the thesis is being carried out will be reviewed annually.
Complementary training programme
In addition to the interdisciplinary training activities offered by the host institution, the fellowship also includes a comprehensive complementary training programme made up of the following blocks:
Training in soft skills and regarding the purpose of the research. Sessions on scientific communication, writing and presentation of scientific papers, an overview of the research system, critical thinking and cognitive flexibility, etc.
Doctoral students, their well-being and effectiveness. Sessions on wellness, mental health, self-awareness, self-confidence, personal development, decision-making, productivity and time management, interdisciplinarity skills, open science, etc.
Preparing for the future. Sessions on career development, career paths in and out of academia, funding opportunities, leadership and teamwork, etc.
Mentoring
Fellow may choose to be assigned a mentor for the duration of the fellowship:
During an initial stage, to provide support for practical aspects related to the arrival at the host centre.
At a more advanced stage, to provide career guidance.
Outreach activities
Fellows will have the opportunity to take part in activities organised by ”la Caixa” Foundation whose aim is to raise awareness of their thesis projects and the results of their research among the general public.
Networking activities
Doctoral INPhINIT fellows will become part of the group of ”la Caixa” Foundation Fellows, a world-renowned network of academic and professional talent.
Fellowship holders will be able to take part in the activities organised to promote meetings and exchanges among the members of this group. These meetings are the best opportunity to establish contacts and create new links with people who've been trained in all kinds of disciplines at the best universities and research centres in the world thanks to a fellowship from ”la Caixa” Foundation.
